Satin Wrappings, Soul, and Weather Predictions

Autumn has arrived and so has the fall and winter onion crop.  As harvest progresses across the country, I am reminded of one of my favorite onion quotes:

“The onion and its satin wrappings is among the most beautiful of vegetables and is the only one that represents the essence of things. It can be said to have a soul.”     -My Summer in a Garden by Charles Dudley Warner

And here’s a rhyme that will make you smile:

“Onion skins very thin, Mild winter coming in.Onion skins very tough, Coming winter very rough.”

-old English rhyme

Yes, signs of fall are beginning to emerge, but warm days are still ahead so I’ve picked out some great recipes this month for you to try.  From a great end-of-summer treat on the grill to a skillet dinner that’s a snap to make on those busy work or school nights September Recipes have it all.
